Chicago’s Finest ‘Mixin Marc’ This Saturday @ El Maguey Lounge

July 29, 2009 by marifer

No stranger to the music industry, Mixin’ Marc is considered by most as one of the busiest DJs in the business. Getting behind the decks at 14, Marc immediately saw an opportunity to excel beyond other DJ’s in the Chicago area. March of 1997, he entered the elite Winter Music Conference Mix-Off in Miami. Marc not only walked away with the title that year, but repeated his success in 1998 AND 1999!

Fast forward to 2000, where as The Static Brothers Mixin’ Marc and Alex Peace released their debut EP, “The Trip,” on Logic Records. This high-energy hit catapulted onto every dance floor in America, becoming a #3 breakout on Billboard’s Dance Charts and propelling their production careers. His second release, “Turn It Up 2000″ on Flash Traxx Records filled out Marc’s release schedule for the end of 2000. Don’t let Marc’s successful vinyl career fool you, it isn’t the only project on his plate. Between appearances in every major city across America and mixing up his unique style of dance hits on Chicago’s prestigious B96 FM, Marc still finds time for a busy CD compilation career.

The year 2000 yielded a slew of CD releases for Marc including “4 The Clubheadz 2,” “Club Series Vol.3″ and finally UC music’s latest venture into 2001 “Massive Underground.” Although Marc’s successes have been noticed as of late, he has always been on the forefront of dance music in the US. Previous co-production credits include “Club Series 1 & 2,” DJ Irene’s “Hard House Diva” and “UC ‘98.” As of Jan. 2001, Marc’s “Club Series” compilations have sold more than 30,000 copies, making it the second highest grossing CD in UC history!

Currently dividing his time between his hometown of Chicago and gigs in such places as Cancun and New York City, Mixin Marc is requested by his fans time and time again. Not just an experienced club resident, Marc pumps the crowd at raves all across the country. Guest spots with other heavyweights in the scene include Dave Ralph, Frankie Bones, DJ Skribble, Richard Humpty Vision, Charles Feelgood and B96 jock Bad Boy Bill. Recently headlining alongside DJ Irene and Armand Van Helden, Mixin’ Marc has received praise not only for his abilities, but also for his demeanor. A professional to the core, music is his life… and his passion. Now working into 2001, expect only the best from Mixin’ Marc… and that’s exactly what you’ll receive. Top of the line bangin’ club hits, a blend of rich trance with a touch of domestic and European techno.

Palenque Grill to Host Annual MDA Executive Lock-Up

mda-warrant-copy

The Muscular  Dystrophy Association (MDA) has charged, tried and convicted local business and community leaders with numerous counts of kindness and conspiracy to support a noble cause.  As members of the Laredo’s “Most Wanted”, these individuals are going to be “locked up” in order to raise “bail” money that will go to assist over 70 local Texas families who are affected by neuromuscular diseases. One of the most anticipated charity events of the year, MDA’s annual Most Wanted Lock-Up will be held Thursday, July 30 at Palenque Grill.

Many of Laredo’s top executives are expected to take part in this year’s Most Wanted Lock-Up, where they will attempt to raise over $60,000 to support MDA. Participants will be “arrested” at their offices and hauled off to the event in an unmarked rapid response vehicle where they will be subjected to MDA’s VIP treatment. These individuals will have the opportunity to network with their “cellmates”, the community’s most influential business leaders, while enjoying Palenque Grill’s exquisite cuisine, and having a ball supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Laredo community leaders participate in Lock-Ups year after year because they know how important the funds raised are to maintaining MDA programs. Local personality and meteorologist Victoria Marshal states:
“As a member of the media, I have had the privilege of working alongside the MDA as a host for the Laredo area telethon and as a judge for the MDA Lock-Up.  But this year, I am looking forward to spending part of my day locked up, raising my bail money for a great cause!  Every dollar adds up to help these children…whether it’s a trip to a clinic, or to summer camp! Each bit counts!”

Proceeds from the Lock-Up remain local, supporting MDA client families by providing clinic services, support groups, research, helping with the purchase of orthopedic equipment and hosting summer camp for children ages 6-17 who are affected by neuromuscular disease.  Last year’s event raised over $35,000 for Laredo area families! For more information about this event or the MDA, please contact Lexi Pelayo, District Director at (210) 507-1021. To help these Jailbirds reach bail early, visit https://www.joinmda.org/2009laredo.

City of Laredo:Health Dept. Issues Swimming Pool Precautions

Laredo, TX -The City of Laredo Health Department would like inform the public that we have seen an increase of bacteria in swimming pools, particularly in apartment complex pools and hotel/motel pools.  In large part this has been due to the unusually high numbers of persons swimming as a way to cool-off in these extremely high temperatures. While we want the public to enjoy themselves in recreational waters we caution the owners and the public to take extra precautions to avoid a potential risk of exposure to bacteria that can cause one to get ill.

For General Users of Swimming Pools:

*Make sure to rinse before entering into a swimming pool and after.

*Wash hands before eating or drinking anything after swimming.

*Children in diapers should not be allowed in public pools.

*Everyone must wear appropriate swim wear no street clothes.

*No person with diarrhea should be allowed to swim.

*Always follow all safety rules

*For owners of Swimming pools (includes Water parks):

*Chlorine levels should be maintained and checked regularly,

*Samples of water can be submitted to the City of Laredo Health Department for bacteriological quality control purposes (there is a cost for this).

*Make sure to scoop up any floating debris.

*Make sure swimmers rinse before entering and only allow appropriate swim wear—no street clothes.

*Staff should test and evaluate water for fecal matter, ph and chlorine levels.  Make sure to check and change filters often and/or as needed.

*If fecal matter is found in a swimming pool the standard protocol is to shut the pool and hyper chlorinate, flushing the lines.

*For those with repeat testing because of bacteria presence we recommend shocking of the pool water, taking extra chlorine testing samples, changing filters more often, making sure all greenery, shrubs, etc. around pools are kept cut, trim and clean, also keep all pets away from any potential drainage or runoff into the pool area

*Manual chlorine and PH testing should be done every 2-3 hours, keeping a log to record chlorine and PH levels.

*All equipment and water systems should be monitored for proper function on a daily basis and cleaned routinely.  This includes pumps, chlorinator, holding tank etc.

*It is highly recommended that staff monitor and enforce water safety, use of appropriate swim wear, and to safeguard the facilities.

We want the public to be aware and utilize the precautions mentioned above.  There is no need to be alarmed but the public should be cautious.  For more information about pool safety please call the Environmental Services Program at (956) 795-4904.
