Laredo Bronco’s End 2009 Season with a Walk-off

The Laredo Broncos ended their 2009 campaign with a come from behind victory, as they beat the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 5-4 at Veterans Field, on Monday.
The Thunder jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first.  Amadeo Zazueta and Manny Mejia both hit rbi doubles.  That gave Coastal Bend a 2-0 lead.
The Thunder added on to their lead in the third.  Manny Mejia hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season.  That made the score 3-0.
Coastal Bend extended their lead in the sixth.  Alex Fernandez hit a solo home run, his second of the season.  The score was now 4-0.

Broncos’ starter Gustavo Vasquez was done after six innings of work.  He gave up four runs, on eight hits; he walked one and struck out two.  Julio Pinot came in to pitch the seventh inning.
Laredo finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh.  With one out Mario Mendez was hit by a pitch, and then stole second base.  Alejandro Martinez then came up and hit a two run home run, his first of the season.  That cut the lead in half, as the score was now 4-2.
The Broncos threatened in the bottom of the eighth against Thunder reliever Carlos Rangel.  They put runners on first and third with two outs, as Coastal Bend had to go to their closer Benny Cepeda.  Mario Mendez was at the plate when a wild pitch was thrown.  Juan Senreiso scored on the play and David Cardona moved to second.  Mendez flew out to end the inning as the score was now 4-3.
Franklyn Gracesqui pitched a scoreless ninth for the Broncos, as they headed to their final at bats down by one.
Cepeda came back out for the Thunder looking to finish off the game.  Alejandro Martinez led off the inning with a single.  Derek Beckman then came in as a pinch runner and went to third on a single by Luany Sanchez.  Robert Moron then doubled to score Beckman and move Sanchez to third.  Cepeda then intentionally walked Andres Santos to load the bases with no one out.  Juan Senreiso reached on a fielder’s choice that saw Sanchez out at home.  Ryan Flynn then delivered with an rbi single that scored Moron and gave the Broncos a 5-4 victory.
The Broncos scored 5 runs on 8 hits and had 2 errors while the Thunder scored 4 runs on 10 hits and had 0 errors.

The Broncos are now 23-57 on the season while the Thunder are 39-40. The Broncos season is now over till next year.  You can keep up with all of the Broncos off season news, by going to www.laredobroncos.com.

Laredo Broncos Road Struggles to Continue Against Thunder

The Laredo Broncos offense only managed four hits, as they lost to the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 7-3 at Fairgrounds Field, on Wednesday.

The Thunder started the scoring in the bottom of the first.  Leivi Ventura hit an rbi single that scored Dustin Smith.  Alex Fernandez then hit a double that scored Amadeo Zazueta.  Later in the inning, Carlos Rodriguez hit an rbi groundout that scored Ventura.  That made the score 3-0.

The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the second.  With one out David Cardona singled, and then went to third when the right fielder dropped Mario Mendez’s fly ball.  Mendez wound up on second base after the play.  Andres Santos then hit an rbi groundout that scored Cardona.  That score was now 3-1.

The Thunder got that run back in the third.  Bryan Vickers knocked in Carlos Rodriguez with a single, to make the score 4-1.

Laredo scored again in the fourth.  Alejandro Martinez led off the inning with a double to left field.  David Cardona then reached on a throwing error by Amadeo Zazueta.  That allowed Martinez to score from second and make the score 4-2.

The Broncos made the game closer in the fifth. With two outs Luis Ugueto was hit by a pitch.  Jaime Morales than hit an rbi triple that scored Ugueto.  The score was now 4-3.

The Thunder got back on the scoreboard in their half of the fifth.  Carlos Rodriguez hit an rbi single that scored Manny Mejia.  Later in the inning Michael Lewis hit a two run double, which chased Broncos’ starter Gustavo Vasquez from the game.  Julio Pinto came in and finished off the inning, as Coastal Bend now had a 7-3 lead.

Vasquez lasted four and two thirds innings for the Broncos.  He gave up seven runs, on 12 hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Pinto ended up throwing two a third scoreless innings before being taken out for Franklyn Gracesqui.  Gracesqui pitched a scoreless eighth as the Broncos trailed by four heading to the ninth.

Alex Gett came out for his second inning of relief and pitched a scoreless ninth, as the Broncos lost their fifth straight game by a score of 7-3.

The Broncos scored 3 runs on 4 hits and had 1 error while the Thunder scored 7 runs on 13 hits and had 2 errors.

The Broncos are now 22-53 on the season while the Thunder are 35-39. The Broncos will next be in action Thursday August 27th, as they play the finale of a four game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder in Robstown at 7:05. Congressman Henry Cuellar to Participate in Town Hall Meeting @ TAMIU

Congressman Henry Cuellar will participate in a town hall meeting on Thursday August 27, hosted by Mercy Ministries of Laredo . Congressman Cuellar invites residents to attend the event and participate in conversations and dialogue as Congress considers health care reform. This is the third town hall meeting Congressman Cuellar participates in his Congressional district, having partaken in similar events in the northern and southern parts of the district. Doors open at 11:30am and town hall meeting begins at 12:30pm @ the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom.
