LaredoHeat Soccer to host El Paso Patriots
Currently in the Premier Development League’s (PDL) Mid-South Division, the El Paso Patriots are the class of the division as they sit in first place and will also be the division’s representatives in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup but this coming week, they are trekking down to South Texas for two critical matches that have the potential to change the standings in the Mid-South for the team from the Sun City.
On Friday June 5th, the Patriots will be in Laredo for a game at the Texas A&M International Soccer Complex versus the 2nd place Heat. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM.
After six games played so far this PDL Regular Season, the Heat, with a record of 3 – 1 – 2, sit only one point behind the Patriots (4 – 2 – 0 / 12 points) and a Heat victory on Friday night will give the Gateway City club sole possession of the division lead.
And if playing in Laredo was not a tough enough task for the Patriots, on Saturday they travel down to Hidalgo to take on the third place and up and coming Rio Grande Valley Bravos (2 – 1 – 3 / 9 points).
“With the halfway mark of the season quickly approaching, games are starting to take on much more importance for all the teams that want to make an impact early and showcase themselves as potential playoff teams, and this is not only in the Mid-South, but throughout the PDL”, mentioned Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.
“After this weekend, we hope to be on top of the Mid-South; however, on the flip side, the Patriots also have the potential to really separate themselves from the rest of the division with two wins and the six points that will be awarded for those victories if they come to fruition for them”.
Vela concluded, “After spending more time on the road than at home in May, the game versus the Patriots on Friday is the first game of four we will be playing in Laredo during the month of June and like always, I want to invite soccer and sports fans to come out to TAMIU and support the team. I promise the entire family will have fun and will be entertained by the fast pace action of Laredo Heat soccer. What better way to spend a Friday night in Laredo but with family and friends and still have money left over for the weekend”.
Ticket Information
- General Admission: $5.00 for adults and all children 12 and under are admitted free of charge
- VIP Seating: $20.00
Heat Notes
The Heat has once again added another local soccer standout to their PDL Master Roster. Former Alexander High School and current TAMIU Defender, Alejandro de la Fuente will be available for Coach Collazo starting this week.
On the injury side, the Heat will be without the services of Forward Albert “Chiti” Escovar and Defender Erick Acevedo. Both players have been instrumental parts for the team since game one and both are out due to hamstring injuries but are expected to be back in action by the middle of June.
Additionally, the club will also not have Mid-Fielder Joel Perez and Defender Soamy Bautista available for the game versus the Patriots. Both players will be serving one game suspensions for receiving red cards versus the Houston Leones this past weekend (two yellow card accumulation in one game). Raul Quiñonez will be coming back and available for the El Paso game after serving his one game suspension for a red card presented to him during the Rio Grande Valley Bravos game in Hidalgo.
