The City of Laredo Commission for Women have been busy collecting blankets for the elderly. This is the first time the Commission has undertaken this event and both these ladies have been out in the community collecting donations. The giveaway of blankets will take place during a Posada at the nursing home, where the Commission will also give out punch and cookies to the elderly.

“At Christmas time, it is important that we remember our elderly citizens and we thought that the blankets would be a wonderful extension of the council members’ love and true warmth for our ancianitos,” said Rodriguez.

On Friday, December 19, 2008 the Young Women’s Commission made up of junior and senior girls from the local high schools will meet at the Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center at 9:00 a.m. to wrap these blankets. The NMV Center is located at 1301 Farragut, 2nd Floor of the Transit Center. They too will be at Retama West Nursing Home on Saturday, December 20 at 2pm helping with the giveaway of blankets, punch and cookies.
