Rudy’s now open in Laredo

I was introduced to Rudy’s barbeque in Austin when a university study buddy set up a class meeting there. She swore that if liked barbeque, then I would looooove Rudy’s. Upon arriving there, I was not sure what she meant, since at first glance, it appears that Rudy’s is no restaurant. In fact, I thought it was a little weird that she had set up our study group at a gas station! When I walked in, a friendly hostess asked if I had ever been to Rudy’s before. Naturally, I shyly replied, “nnno.” She patiently guided me through the process of ordering my exquisite brisket by the pound. I could never have ordered a pound for myself, but Rudy’s actually lets you order fractions of a pound for one person. I was served my 1/4 lb on a paper plate, and when I say paper, I mean you cannot get more literal than that! Your food is served on paper. I reveled in my dinner, surrounded by the sarcastic Rudy’s decor, comprised of country signs instructing you not tell the crew how good their food is, but rather to simply come back! Needless to say, I did. It was quite the experience.

I will wait for the excitement of Laredo’s open arms to new business to calm down before I head on out there, but you can check out the first Rudy’s in Laredo, now open on 7305 McPherson Rd. Browse Rudy’s menu here before you head out there yourself and tell us about your experience there.

Taco Palenque

The best authentic Mexican food you can find here in the border is Taco Palenque. this is a must taste restaurant. Headquartered in Laredo, Texas and established in 1987, Taco Palenque was founded by Juan Francisco Ochoa from Sinaloa, Mexico. Juan Francisco Ochoa and Don Chicho also opened several Pollo Loco franchises in Mexico in the late 1970’s and the United States in the 1980’s. In 1985, Juan Francisco moved to Monterrey where he planned to create a Mexican fast food chain in the United States. In 1987, his plans came true when he opened his first Taco Palenque in Laredo, Texas. The chain has now expanded to McAllen in 1998, Brownsville in 2001, San Antonio in 2007, and soon Nuevo Laredo, Mexico in 2008. Take a look at the menu online.
